The marketing train is well out of the station in the lead up to the premiere of the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. We recently just got casting news, for example, that Rory Kinnear will be playing the legendary Tom Bombadil in the upcoming episodes, and the released season two trailer reveals that Charlie Vickers’ Sauron will now be sporting an elvish visage.
One actor, however, will not be coming back for season two. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nazanin Boniadi, who played the human healer Bronwyn in the first season, won’t be in the second.
Boniadi shared on Instagram recently that she shifted her focus from acting to activism over a year ago. “I stepped away from acting in September 2022, to focus solely on the #WomanLifeFreedom uprising in Iran and to advocate for the people of my homeland who have been risking everything for freedom,” she wrote on a May 8 post. She recently acted in the film, A Mosquito in the Ear, but it appears that The Rings of Power was not a project she returned to.
Bronwyn is the mother of Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin) and also started a star-crossed romance with the elf Arondir (Ismael Cruz Cordova) in season one. Cordova and Muhafidin are confirmed to be in season two, and it’s unclear whether Boniadi’s role has been recast or if the character simply won’t show up on screen.
Season two of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on Prime Video on August 29, 2024.
